If you are a fan of Japanese cinema,
you may have heard of the tale of 47 Ronin.
There were a number of films depicting this story released in Japan.
Soon Americans will also get their own western take on the tale.
The Hollywood version of 47 Ronin is set to be released
this year in 3D and is starring Keanu Reeves.
Movie-Moron posted an interview where Reeves
discussed the upcoming film. This is what he had to say
about the setting of the film and his role in it:
“It’s in 3D, it’s a kind of Western, I call it a story of
revenge and impossible love. These Samurai: their lord is usurped,
has to commit seppuku. The Samurai become Ronin, getting outcast,
and then they decide to enact revenge on the person that
they feel is responsible for the death of their lord. and I play an outsider,
a kind of half-breed, with a mysterious past, who is in love with the princess.”
It will be interesting to see how a Western take on the Eastern tale will turn out.
Carl Rinsch is directing the film. This seems like it will be
his first real feature film if IMDb is to be believed. Lets hope
he will do a good job reenvisioning the classic tale for modern audiences.
The original story of the 47 Ronin goes back to Japanese feudal period
of the early 18th century. It is a story of Samurai honor and hardship.
A group of Samurai were left leaderless after their lord was
forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide). The story is said to be true
and it has had a great legacy for modern-day cinema.
IMDB, has the film listed for release on Nov. 21, 2012.
It should also be available in 3D when it hits theaters.
