Formerly a member of boy band KAT-TUN,
Akanishi was with the group when they made
their debut in 2006 and topped the Oricon album,
single, and dvd charts simultaneously.
Akanishi temporarily left the group in 2006 to study abroad
in the United States and returned to KAT_TUN in 2007.
In 2009, Akanishi formed a temporary unit LANDS
with Takeshi Kobayashi (producer of Mr. Children) and
Nobuaki Kaneko (drummer for Rize) for the movie Bandage
and released an album, Olympos. In 2010, he became
the first artist from Johnny's and Associates to
perform in the United States -- headlining a "You & Jin" tour
and later announcing he would leave KAT-TUN in July 2010.
Following up with the all-English "Yellow Gold Tour 3010,"
Akanishi also earned a supporting role in the Hollywood film
47 Ronin alongside Keanu Reeves. He will be playing
the son of a head samurai.
According to Heyyaa.com, Akanishi plans to access the U.S.
industry by merging his Jpop style with American trends.
While performing at the Nippon Budokan, Jin shared
with his fans aspirations of debuting in the United States:
"I always thought it would be nice to be active
around the world with my base here in Japan,” Jin said.
“[This song] feels like the important first step towards this direction."
